In this video, Christine Simone of Move Health explains how Medicare Part D works — the portion of Medicare that covers prescription drugs.
-
Easy way to remember: “D” stands for Drugs — and also Divorce, since you can change your Part D plan every year during open enrollment. Unlike Medigap (supplement) plans, which you’re generally “married” to, Part D plans can be switched annually without penalty.
-
Best strategy: Each year, review your current prescriptions and use Medicare.gov (or work with an advisor) to compare plans. Choose the one that offers the most cost-effective coverage for your medications in the upcoming year.
By reevaluating annually during open enrollment, you can ensure your Part D plan remains the best fit for your current prescription needs and costs.
